Food safety
As babies are learning to eat solid foods, they might experience choking.
It is important to:
- always watch them while they eat
- not let them move around while they eat
- use the safety harness or seat belt when they sit in a highchair
- test the temperature of food before giving it to your baby
Foods to avoid before 12 months
- Honey
- Raw or uncooked eggs and foods containing raw eggs like home-made mayonnaise
Foods that can make your baby choke
- Small hard foods (nuts, undercooked pieces of hard fruit and vegetables, popcorn)
- Small slippery foods (whole grapes and cherry tomatoes)
- Fruit that has seeds in them (cherries, apricots and nectarines)
