0-2 months

Is your baby tired?

Our bodies give us signs to let us and others know we are tired. Your baby is the same.

In the first two months it can be tricky trying to work out if your baby is showing signs of being tired, hungry, uncomfortable, or wanting to play. That is because most babies take about 6 to 8 weeks to learn how to communicate clearly.

There are some general tired signs to look for:

  • sighing or yawning
  • holding fists tight
  • moving around a lot
  • making a funny face or frowning
  • staring without focusing or not looking at anything
  • arching the back
  • crying.

When you see the tired signs, you should start to prepare your baby for safe sleep. crying usually happens last.
