    Benefits of looking after yourself

Healthy Beginnings gives families helpful information and support during your baby’s first year of life to help you:

    • sleep better
    • have more energy
    • feel less lower back pain
    • feel less stressed
    • have less nausea and heartburn
    • have an easier labour or delivery
    • improve digestion
    • get back to your fitness and weight before pregnancy.

Preventing gestational diabetes and other health conditions

Gaining a healthy amount of weight during pregnancy helps prevent diabetes and other health problems.

Eating well and staying active is good for you and your baby. The food your baby gets before they are born can affect their health later in their life. Babies born too small or too big might have a higher risk of weight and health issues as they grow.

If you have diabetes during pregnancy, follow the eating plan your family doctor or dietitian gives you.
