Breastfeeding your baby when you are out
Sometimes, you may need to feed your baby in public.
You have the legal right to breastfeed anywhere in Australia.
Tips for breastfeeding your baby when you are out
- Wear clothes with buttons or ones that lift up easily.
- Use a cloth or scarf over your shoulder if it makes you feel more comfortable while you are breastfeeding.
- Try to feed your baby before they get very hungry and upset.
- Look for a calm and comfortable spot to sit and feed.
- Find out if there is a baby care or parents' room available near where you are visiting.
Parents rooms usually have changing tables, private spots for feeding, small toilets for kids, comfortable seats, a microwave and sink, and a little area for older children to play while mum feeds the baby.
